Private Dog Training Lessons

If you prefer to take a hands-on approach to your dog’s training, our private dog training lessons are a better fit for you.

We work at your pace and design lessons to match your goals. You decide on a couple private lessons to curb a few behaviors, or take your dog’s training to a more advanced level.

Private dog training lessons will take place at either our location , your home, or a designated meetup spot within the Chicago suburban area.

We schedule private dog training lessons as needed and training equipment is available for purchase.

How Our Private Dog Training Lessons Work

Your first private lesson lasts approximately two hours which we cater to your individual needs. One of our trainers uses this time to discuss our dog training philosophy, methods, and different training tools.

Your first lesson includes an evaluation of your dog and a plan to meet your goals and expectations. We introduce you and your dog to our focus and foundation training session and teach you how to have a more instinctual relationship.

Each additional lesson lasts 1 to 1.5 hours. Distractions are added as you and your dog are ready. Below is a general overview of what you can expect to learn in each lesson.

*If your dog is leash, human, dog, or resource reactive, we recommend that you choose board and train instead of private lessons.

First Lesson

Balancing the Relationship – What does leadership really mean?
Focus and Foundation Session – Teaching your dog to follow instead of lead
Clear Communication – What mixed messages are you sending your dog?
Nature vs Nurture – How affection can encourage reactivity
Unwanted Behavior – Why your dog acts out and how to stop accidentally enabling them
Learn How to Interrupt – Barking, jumping, pulling on leash, destructive chewing
Reintroducing the Crate – The importance of crating your dog

Second and Third Lessons

Follow Me and Shaping the Heel – Stop your dog from pulling on walks
Place Command / Impulse Control – Teach your dog not to chase squirrels or run away
Come When Called – Enjoy life with your dog off leash by having a lifesaving recall
Travel – Have a calm dog both in the car and upon arrival to your destination
Socialization – Appropriate play, the right and wrong way for your dog to meet people and other dogs

Additional Lessons

Increasing Distance, Distraction and Duration – Meet your trainer at a pet friendly location
Off Leash – Proof your recall around distractions
Just For Fun –Teach your dog how to heel off leash, “roll over” and “sit pretty”. We also teach you how to capture a behavior and cue it as a trick.
